Le milieu

Le milieu is the venue of the company Le Phare à Lucioles. Located in Mont Ventoux, in the south of France, in a small rural and isolated village, this creative center welcomes artists from all over the world for research and writing. Open to all contemporary practices, the milieu offers working, writing and research spaces to professional and emerging artists for residencies lasting from 5 to 20 days.

Available resources

Artists benefit from a working space equipped according to their needs and as much as possible. The company team (artistic and general management, technical management, production management, communication and mediation) supports the artists in their relations with local residents. Artists are housed in single rooms in an apartment located directly above the workspaces. Each artist receives a residency grant of €80 per day of attendance, including all food and incidental expenses. For artists coming from abroad, partial payment of travel expenses may be considered.

Outreaches project

Particular attention is paid to projects that consider the question of mediation at the heart of their creative process. Each residency must propose at least one mediation project aimed at audiences and/or the inhabitants, to be defined in conjunction with the company's mediation manager. A detailed presentation of the proposed action must be included in the application file.

Selection process

Applications are reviewed by a team of 9 people from the company. The selection is based on the creative project, the relevance of the residency application and the proposed mediation project. Total parity is respected in the final selection. Diversity of artistic disciplines is sought, as is a balance between the different types of residencies.

Residencies

The milieu offers several types of residences, each of which has its own specificities.

Solo residencies

These residencies are intended for professional artists who wish to work on the research, composition, writing or the development of a new piece. Artists will have access to a work platform equipped with a Steinway D grand concert piano or to the 'visual arts' set for visual artists and artists from other disciplines. Several solo artists can be hosted at the same time but each will have their own room and their own work area.

Group / band residencies

These residencies are intended for groups, companies and professional artistic teams who wish to work on rehearsing a work currently being created. Artists will have access to a work platform equipped as much as possible at the request of each project. Groups can consist of up to 7 people (7 rooms in the artist residence).

Family residencies

These residencies are intended for professional artists who wish to work on research, composition, writing or the development of a new work and who wish to come with family or accompanied by loved ones. The family will be accommodated in the apartment-residence and the artist will benefit from a work space (artistic platform). Only the artist will receive a residency grant.

Emergence residencies

These residencies are intended for emerging regional artists or groups. The aim is to welcome non-professional artists or those in the process of becoming professionals, with tailor-made technical, production, structuring and mediation support. It's a matter of providing equipment, personnel and space (stage and apartment-residence); there are no grants in this context, but full coverage of accommodation, food and travel expenses.

Team residencies

These residences are intended for accommodating teams of permanent company employees. Administration, communication, production, technical management... We want to offer these teams working time outside their framework to allow them to think about a subject (seminar) or simply to work differently and elsewhere for a while. The team will have access to a shared office with a WiFi connection and access to a printer. Maximum capacity = 7 people (7 bedrooms in the apartment). Considering that the people accepted are employed by their company, there is no residency grant, but access to accommodation and workspaces is fully covered by our company.

Please note

- There is no residence outing ;

- Le milieu is home to Le Phare à Lucioles company, whose activities take precedence over everything else. In addition to residencies, the milieu hosts shows, film screenings, workshops for groups, etc. This activity may require some adjustments to the organisation of the work of artists in residence ;

- Meals and transport are to be organized independently by residents. The flat has a fully equipped kitchen to be shared with other residents if necessary. We may be able to consider providing assistance with travel arrangements for artists coming from abroad ;

- Sault is a remote village located 40 km from Carpentras (the nearest railway station). Bus route 912 only runs a few times a day and does not operate on Sundays. Find out all you need to know so that you can prepare for your arrival and departure as well as possible ;
